I am Erzhena Batorova, the author of “Magic Arshan”, a writer from Buryatia. This story is inspired by Buryat-Mongolian myths, the nature of our land, and a child’s curiosity and desire for discovery.
I am drawn to themes of journey, coming of age, and the connection between humans and the world around them. I try to write in a way that is engaging for both children and adults — so that behind the adventure, there is a sense of depth and a living culture.
In “Magic Arshan”, real places and imagery are combined with elements of magic — as they might be seen through the eyes of children who believe in miracles.
